Without the particles, it would be impossible to understand any Japanese sentence.<\/p>\n<p>In today&#039;s article, I intend to comment on the most basic particles of the Japanese language, talking a little about their most common uses and meanings. Don&#039;t worry if you don&#039;t understand a lot now, as we advance further in our studies, everything will become clearer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although they are written using the\u00a0<a title=\"Hiragana and Katakana Japanese Alphabet\" href=\"https:\/\/comoaprenderjapones.net\/en\/alphabet-japanese-hiragana-and-katakana\/\">Japanese alphabet in hiragana<\/a>, some syllables of this alphabet may change pronunciation when being used as particles. The topic is usually marked by the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"wa\">\u306f<\/acronym>.<\/p>\n<p>The concept of topic is something very confusing for Brazilians, since it does not exist in the Portuguese language, but it is not as complicated as many think. Let&#039;s use the sentence below as an example.<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"kare wa nihonjin desu - he is Japanese.\"><span class=\"orange\" style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u5f7c<\/span>\u306f\u65e5\u672c\u4eba\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"kare - he.\">\u5f7c<\/acronym>\u00a0is the main subject of the sentence, the most important part of the sentence. This happens because after\u00a0<acronym title=\"kare - he.\">\u5f7c<\/acronym>\u00a0the particle appears\u00a0<acronym title=\"wa\">\u306f<\/acronym>.<\/p>\n<p>If we change the sequence of words in the same sentence, we change the topic or the part that we give more importance, but the translation usually doesn&#039;t change.<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"nihonjin wa kare desu - he is Japanese.\"><span class=\"orange\" style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u65e5\u672c\u4eba<\/span>\u306f\u5f7c\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p>Now the topic of the sentence is\u00a0<acronym title=\"nihonjin - japanese.\">\u65e5\u672c\u4eba<\/acronym>, since it appears before the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"wa\">\u306f<\/acronym>.<\/p>\n<h3>the subject particle<\/h3>\n<p>the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"ga\">\u304c<\/acronym>\u00a0is the mark that indicates which word is the subject of the sentence. That is, the word that appears before the syllable\u00a0<acronym title=\"ga\">\u304c<\/acronym>\u00a0is the one who performs or suffers the action of the verb. For example:<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"onaka ga itai desu - My stomach hurts (or is hurting).\"><span class=\"orange\" style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u304a\u8179<\/span>\u304c\u75db\u3044\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p>In the sentence above\u00a0<acronym title=\"onaka - stomach.\">\u304a\u8179<\/acronym>\u00a0is the subject of the sentence, as it appears before the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"ga\">\u304c<\/acronym>. And if we look closely, it&#039;s\u00a0<acronym title=\"onaka - stomach.\">\u304a\u8179<\/acronym>\u00a0that suffers the action of hurting.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There is a lot of confusion when it comes to knowing when to use the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"ga\">\u304c<\/acronym>\u00a0or the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"wa\">\u306f<\/acronym>. This happens because there is no concept of topic in our mother tongue, and also because the topic of sentences in Japanese ends up becoming the subject of sentences within a free translation from Japanese to Portuguese.<\/p>\n<p>Through living with the Japanese language, students end up assimilating the difference between the use of these two particles. So be a little patient with yourself. Right?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>the possessive particle<\/h3>\n<p>the syllable\u00a0<acronym title=\"at the\">\u306e<\/acronym>, when used as a particle, usually makes the relationship between two nouns; giving a sense of\u00a0<em>owner<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>thing possessed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"Kanojo no hon - Her book\">\u5f7c\u5973<span class=\"orange\" style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u306e<\/span>\u672c\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p>In the example above, the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"at the\">\u306e<\/acronym>\u00a0indicates that\u00a0<acronym title=\"Kanojo - she\">\u5f7c\u5973<\/acronym>\u00a0is the owner of\u00a0<acronym title=\"hon - book\">\u672c<\/acronym>. In other words, &quot;<em>her book<\/em>\u201d or \u201c<em>the book that belongs to her<\/em>\u201c. Note that the word before the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"at the\">\u306e<\/acronym>\u00a0is the owner of the word that comes after the particle.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You\u00a0<a title=\"Possessive Pronouns in Japanese\" href=\"https:\/\/comoaprenderjapones.net\/en\/possessive-pronouns-in-japanese\/\">possessive pronouns in japanese<\/a>\u00a0use the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"at the\">\u306e<\/acronym>\u00a0in its formation, taking advantage of the possessive function of this particle.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>A particle of many functions<\/h3>\n<p>despite the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"ni\">\u306b<\/acronym>\u00a0have many functions, it is not necessary to know all of them now. For now, it is enough to know three basic functions of the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"ni\">\u306b<\/acronym>: Direct contact, location and indirect object.<\/p>\n<h4>Direct contact<\/h4>\n<p>It is used to express when two things are very close, coming into direct contact with each other. In the sentence below,\u00a0<acronym title=\"ringo - apple\">\u308a\u3093\u3054<\/acronym>\u00a0is the one who suffers the action of\u00a0<acronym title=\"taberu - eat\">\u98df\u3079\u308b<\/acronym>, so it must be marked with the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"O\">\u3092<\/acronym>.<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"Ringo o taberu - Eating apple.\">\u308a\u3093\u3054\u3092\u98df\u3079\u308b\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"ocha o nomu - drink tea\">\u304a\u8336\u3092\u98f2\u3080\u3002<\/acronym><\/p>\n<h3>Another particle of many functions<\/h3>\n<p>To conclude our journey through the <a href=\"https:\/\/comoaprenderjapones.net\/en\/basic-particle-in-japanese\/\">basic particles of japanese language<\/a>, let&#039;s know the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"I&#039;m\">\u3068<\/acronym>. Although it has many functions, let&#039;s talk about the two most basic ones: Comprehensive lists and citations.<\/p>\n<h4>comprehensive lists<\/h4>\n<p>Understand comprehensive lists, like declaring a list of objects, where all objects are mentioned. For example, a shopping list is a comprehensive list, although large, where we have a list of all the things that we are going to buy in the market. Lists like these are called comprehensive lists because it is possible to remember all the objects in the list.<\/p>\n<p>In Japanese, a comprehensive list is created by placing the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"I&#039;m\">\u3068<\/acronym>\u00a0between each object in the list. For example:<\/p>\n<p><acronym title=\"pen to kuruma to pan - Pencil and car and bread.\">\u30da\u30f3\u3068\u8eca\u3068\u30d1\u30f3<\/acronym><\/p>\n<p>In Japanese, it is easier to find phrases like \u201cpencil and pen and paper\u201d than \u201cpencil, pen and paper\u201d. The Japanese generally use the particle\u00a0<acronym title=\"I&#039;m\">\u3068<\/acronym>\u00a0instead of separating objects with commas.<\/p>\n<p>The same usage also happens when the list elements are people.
