Prolongation of vowels in katakana

Prolonging vowels in katakana is much simpler than in hiragana. All extensions are performed using ー. That's right, just put the ー after the vowel (syllable ending with a vowel) that we want to prolong. Check it out:

コンピュータ (conpyuuta – from English computer) – Computer
テーブル (teeburu – from the English table) – table
チーズ (chiizu – from English cheese) – Cheese

As the words are of foreign origin (from outside Japan), we write them in katakana and use ー to make the vowel lengthening. In katakana there is no exception to this rule.
